UNITY ART SHOW FEATURED ARTIST: Travon Greer

Here is the third artist interview for The BLACKout Magazine's feature on the artists of the Unity art show:

Name: Travon Greer
Year: Junior
Major: Graphic Design

What is the inspiration for your work?
“Pretty much my everyday life, just because I’m not the most talkative person so I’d rather just express my thought on a piece of paper, and that’s pretty much where everything has come from; like my mind and everything I experience around me.”

How did you get into graphic design?
“It’s pretty funny because I first I wanted to be an Architect. So, all through high I took architecture classes, I was in this club called A.C.E. (Architecture, Construction and Engineering). I was doing all of that, but then, I lost a passion for math, I just wanted to be free with my art and what I did, so I leaned towards graphic design. With architecture, you can tell by the way I draw, everything is even and shaped up, that’s just from my architecture classes.”

How do you feel about being a part of the Unity Art Show?
“It’s pretty great, it’s really my first event that I’m apart of with Mizzou. I mean people see my around, but I’ve never done an official Mizzou event, so this is going to be my first one and I’m pretty excited about it.”

What piece are you going to have for the show?
“I’m working on a piece that’s going to be for the sure, I can’t say the detail about it, but it’s going to be a pretty interesting piece. It’s going to be a hand-drawn piece I draw everything up on paper and then once I scan it I edit it up on the computer……I’d rather just draw it on a piece of paper, it makes it more authentic to me.”

What plans do you have for the future?
“I’m currently working on a partnership with one of my friends from Kansas State, we’re trying to do like our own brand, and I’m starting out now, I’m going to start doing sample shirts and clothes, so people can see what we are heading towards…..I’m going to do something for children.”
Any last words?

“I’m excited about the event and I know everyone is going to love the piece that I do.”
